making new friends

when: sunday, nov. 27, 2011

what i wore:
cape: asos via giveaway
belt: target
sweater: h&m
jeggings: american eagle
socks: gift, missoni for target
shoes: minnetonka via dsw

where: georgetown

i knew i wanted to meet these two lovely ladies as soon as we booked our trip to d.c., so i convinced them to meet up with us for pizza and shopping in georgetown on our last day in the city!

meeting bloggers is such a cool thing. i already felt like i knew them; i just didn’t know exactly how tall they were or what their voices sounded like. :) if you aren’t familiar with them, please allow me to introduce you…

megan is a mom and talented clothing designer (she’s currently working on a maternity skirt for me!) with an awesome australian accent. i loved her hair, too! :)

and tania is a sweet, smart and fun teacher-by-day who moonlights as a fashion blogger. i’m pretty sure i could have talked to her all day. (you might remember her from this post, and you can see her outfit details here.)

who knows? maybe you and i will meet someday…

p.s. THANK YOU to joanne of fabulously averagerachael of rachael, really, and alicia of alicia blogs for sponsoring snappy casual this month!

on capitol hill

when: friday, nov. 25, 2011

what i wore:
red frames: c/o proopticals
sweater: h&m
tunic: american apparel
jeggings: american eagle
shoes: wanted via giveaway

where: u.s. capitol, national mall

i’m kind of in love with this outfit…so much so that i’m pretty sure i wore it three times in the past week. my secret’s safe with you, right? you got a sneak peek of it in my packing post. turns out preplanning all my vacation outfits was the best idea ever. :) it was totally no-fuss. eric and i were able to share a bag, and i wore almost everything i brought. that never happens.

oh, and i wanted to mention my new frames…you know i love fake glasses and for some reason i’ve been on a red kick lately. i love how these add an extra pop to my outfit! they are going to be great for the holidays.

and, my niece myah was pretty proud of her colorful striped sweater and wanted to show it off. she thought i would really like it, which i do, but i made sure to tell her that i love her in whatever she wears. she is a little fashionista! she told me twice the day before that she really liked my boots and that she wants some and so does her mom…and she also wants to get her ears pierced for christmas. :)

in flight

when: thursday, nov. 24, 2011

what i wore:
sunglasses: paul frank (won via twitter)
tunic: american apparel
sweatshirt: american apparel

coat: h&m
leggings: forever 21
boots: steve madden

where: flight from des moines to d.c., sightseeing around arlington, va

the day started with an early flight, and my mom, eric and i were surprised at our luck when we got upgraded to first class. let me tell you, it’s a whole different kind of flight up there. they hang up your coat and hand you a blanket and a basket full of food. i soaked it in because it will probably never happen again!

we landed in d.c. a couple hours later, checked into our hotel and then ate thanksgiving dinner at joe theismann’s. the weather was unbelievably gorgeous for a walk around arlington national cemetery and the marine corps war memorial (aka the iwo jima memorial). it was a quiet day in the city, but i can’t imagine a better place to celebrate thanksgiving day. my heart is thankful for all the men and women who have fought and continue to fight for our freedom.

did you guys have an awesome weekend?! we had a wonderful trip, and now it’s back to reality! we got home late last night but i hope to get my photos uploaded soon.

this is my third look in the soon maternity blogger’s style challenge. i’d really appreciate your votes again! you can like my photo on facebook here. and leaving a comment on the photo counts as an additional vote!

i got a lot of compliments on this one, and a few of them were from my husband. i said if dressing up was always this easy and comfortable, i’d do it a lot more often.
