on the runway: big hair ball 2011 “glitter and grease”

i had a great time this past weekend at the big hair ball! i love modeling and i felt so lucky to participate in this awesome event. my stylist did an amazing job, and i really hope i can do it again next time! (check out photos from last time.)

in this runway show for hair creativity, i modeled for bella salons and spa in their performance of “the rabbit and the crow”:

the two characters—one black as coal, the other white as diamond—together create a disturbed medley that shows how we merge the brightest day and darkest night. every coal has a diamond hidden underneath and our goal is to make it shine.

jess braided my hair so she could then sew on the long fake hair:

jess giving it a good tease:

after two hours of of teasing, hair spray and feathers, the hair is done!

another hour later, makeup and costume are finished and i’m ready to go!

afterward, posing with my stylist, jess, and with eric:

what do you think? i hope i didn’t scare you away!

my outfit: extra, extra, read all about it

when: wednesday, april 20, 2011

what i wore:
glasses: charlotte russe
shirt: borrowed from my friend keisha (forever 21)
jeggings: american eagle
shoes: simply vera vera wang via kohl’s

where: work, dinner with friends

thanks so much for everyone who voted for me to be the cover model for juice. the issue came out last week. if you live in the des moines metro, hurry to pick up your free copy! you can also see more photos here and here.

oh! and i am loving my new glasses. aren’t they so nerdy?! i saw these on my cousin and knew i had to have a pair for myself. actually, i got them in two colors since they were only $5.50. i have wanted fake glasses for 10 years. TEN YEARS, people! can you believe i waited so long?

on the runway: big hair ball 2009 “glam revolution”

this weekend, i’m modeling for bella salon & spa in the des moines art center’s biennial big hair ball fundraiser. it’s going to be so fun! because my blog didn’t exist last time i modeled in the show, i thought i’d share a recap from two years ago.

the point of the runway show is to display hair creativity, but of course our outfits and makeup were awesome, too. the overall theme was glam revolution, and our show in particular played off of the technology revolution (which is why i’m painted like a robot).

the day started with body paint by vanity & glamour:

if you’re interested in attending this year, tickets are $50 and can be purchased here through tomorrow.
