30 items, 30 days, 30 outfits

WHY I REMIX…

  • because otherwise i would wear jeggings every single day.
  • because it gives me a purpose and a plan when i get dressed each morning.
  • because it produces creative outfits.
  • because it lets my clothes play with each other.
  • because i only want to buy things that i really love and that fit within my budget and my style. so i take 30 days off from shopping and re-evaluate.
  • because i need to constantly be reminded that i have enough clothes.
  • because i want to fall in love with my clothes again. i bought them for a reason, but i keep adding to my collection and, sadly, often forget about once-loved pieces.

SHOPPING LIST

i did shop during this challenge (i was on vacation!), but here’s what i think my spring/summer closet is missing:

  • nice, plain t-shirts (so i can look like this)
  • a pair of dressy shorts
  • a new pair of sandals
  • another swimming suit
  • floppy summer beach hat

you can also see my entire wardrobe wants list.

so, what do you think? what was your favorite outfit?

rule-breaker

Everybody, Everywear | Pattern Mixing

when: tuesday, aug. 2, 2011

what i wore:
shirt: ruche
necklace: forever 21
skirt: lc lauren conrad (hand-me-down)
sandals: target

where: work, life group

this was going to be my final 30 for 30 outfit:

i had it all planned out, and every item would have been worn at least twice. that is one of my personal 30 for 30 rules. but what is up with this summer heat? maybe you think it was silly of me to include four pairs of pants and a sweater in my summer remix (and maybe it was), but i heard on the radio that iowa hasn’t been this hot since 1955. wowzas.

anyway, the outfit i actually wore totally pushes my limits a lot more. i consider kristine and tessa as master pattern mixers, but have a hard time doing it myself. i guess those types of outfits just don’t seem as obvious to me. i can’t decide if i love this or not. what do you think?

i might be the last one to finish, but i did it! stay tuned for a 30 for 30 recap!

creamsicle

when: sunday, july 17, 2011

what i wore:
top: maude via langford market
necklace: forever 21
skirt: american apparel
sandals: merona via target

where: shoe store, church

i wore this outfit shopping…for running shoes.

i decided that i’m going to start working out a bit more. whether it’s biking, swimming, running or walking, i need to be more active. i played four sports in high school and two in college (softball one year and volleyball for three years), so i think i was burnt out for a while. and then i hurt my knee while training for a marathon, and it hasn’t been the same since.

eric and i signed up for a 5k last month…i ended up walking it. eric ran the whole thing and did well. i think (hope) that most of the problem is that i haven’t gotten new shoes for at least eight years. so eric and i went to get me fitted for some running shoes.

by design only i would have chosen the nike free run, but i need more comfort than that for my knees and hips. i decided on the asics gel nimbus. my brother, sister and eric wear these shoes and they love them. i plan to show you a walking/running outfit soon! if you’re a runner, my friend taylor has a running style blog that you might want to check out!

the magical field

when: thursday, july 8, 2011

what i wore:
t-shirt: c/o raygun
jeggings: american eagle
boots: simply vera vera wang via kohl’s

where: work

this little spot has worked itself into our rotation of go-to photo shoot locations because i love wide-open spots in the city where you can see for miles. you see, the last time we were here was in may and the field was just a bunch of dirt. when we drove up this time, we were surprised to see tall cornstalks.

is anyone else ready for fall? it’s my favorite season and i always get so excited as soon as august hits. i was the girl who loved going back to school in new clothes with new notebooks. it meant volleyball season and the perfect weather for jeans and cardigans. fall is just the best!

midweek dinner parties and messy hair

when: wednesday, july 6, 2011

what i wore:
top: zoey via anthropologie
necklace: forever 21
shorts: cutoffs, abercrombie and fitch
sandals: target

where: midweek dinner party

these photos were taken after a midweek dinner party with friends, when the sun was going down and my hair was quite disheveled. but i love the casual feel from head-to-toe. also, i think this necklace was the best $3 i ever spent! it goes with everything.

i’m getting really close to the end of the 30 for 30 now! (hopefully you already forgot that kendi and most of the other remixers were done a couple weeks ago…i promise i’ll finish, at my own pace!)
